Does WhatsApp up on your phone bill?
WhatsApp calls and messages will not be shown on your phone bill because it is not a traditional call or text to another number using the phone network. However, WhatsApp calls and messages will use cellular data, but your network provider won’t know who you called or messaged.
Now, we will explain this in more depth.
So, WhatsApp will not be shown or listed on your phone bill or phone log.
This is because you are not connecting to a mobile/phone network and dialing a number.
Calling or ringing somebody on WhatsApp, is similar to FaceTiming someone.
The same applies when you text somebody on WhatsApp. You are not actually sending a traditional text (SMS) or using your mobile networks texting ability. It’s very similar to sending a message using iMessage, which uses the internet to send messages and not a mobile network.
Are WhatsApp calls shown on your internet/cellular data bill?
You may also be wondering if WhatsApp calls will be shown on your internet bill, or the cellular data part of your phone bill.
Well, every mobile provider will be slightly different, but most bills don’t specifically break what the data was used on. Usually, at most, the bill will say it was used on social media, or on WhatsApp.
However, the bill wouldn’t show who you rang on WhatsApp. It’s unlikely that your mobile provider can see you have contacted on WhatsApp because firstly, it’s encrypted, and secondly, all the provider can see is that you connected to WhatsApp’s server.
Basically, you when you make a call or text on WhatsApp, you connect to WhatsApp’s server, then the call/text is made/sent from WhatsApp’s server to the individual you are calling or messaging.
How to make a call on WhatsApp
Here are the steps you can follow in order to make a call on WhatsApp.
1. Open WhatsApp
Firstly, you need to open up WhatsApp.
2. Find the contact you want to call
Secondly, you need to find the contact that you would like to call.
You can find the person you would like to call by looking through your “Chats”.
In order to get to your recent Chats, you need to tap on “Chats” on the bottom navigation bar.
Alternatively, you can tap on “Calls” with the icon which looks like a phone.
Then, you can scroll through your recent calls, you can tap on the “New Call” button. The icon looks like a phone and plus symbol, and it is located in the top right.
You will be able to view all of your contacts.
3. Choose if you want to voice or video call
Once you have found the contact you want to call, you need to choose if you want to voice call, or video call them.
The phone icon stands for voice call, and the video camera stands for video call.
You can always start with a voice call, then switch it to a video call if you decide to.
How to remove WhatsApp calls from Recents on your phone
Something important to note is that any WhatsApp calls you make will be shown on your phones Recent calls.
This is not reflected on your phone bill, but it just shows all the calls you have made from your phone, whether they are internet calls (voice over internet protocol – VOIP), or traditional phone calls made using your mobile network.
So just to confirm, this is separate from your phone bill and phone log.
It’s very easy to remove calls from the Recents page. But, this action cannot be un-done, so make sure you won’t regret your decision later. You could always screenshot it before removing it.
Firstly, open up the Phone app on your phone.
Secondly, tap on the Recents button on the bottom navigation bar. The icon looks like a clock.
As we mentioned earlier, this list will show all of the calls you have made from your phone (internet calls, and traditional calls over your phone network).
Now, there are two different ways you can remove a call from this list.
The first way is by tapping on “Edit” in the top right.
This will bring up a red dot with a white line through it next to each call on the list.
You need to tap on the red dot, and a red button with “Delete” on it will slide in from the right, from the left.
So, you need to tap on “Delete” and the call will be removed from the list.
Alternatively, you need to find the call which you want to remove from the list, and move your finger from right to left on the call, and a “Delete” button will be revealed as you slide your finger.
